A proud member of Turismo Chile, Tierra Atacama, has become the first hotel in Chile to satisfy daily energy demands by using it’s own photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant.
The hotel is expanding the existing PV plant while adding a larger storage capacity. This off-the-grid hotel is located in the Atacama Desert and saves up to 65% of the diesel it used to use.
“We are very motivated with the results of this project that matches with our promise to protect the environment. To innovate with a hybrid system is a great advance in our procedures, and we hope to continue to develop solar projects”, stated Miguel Purcell, Managing Partner of Tierra Hotels.
Tierra Atacama is part of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World collections which chooses hotels that are leaders in sustainable tourism with a strong connection to local communities and environmental protection.
The Tierra Hotels group was chosen as the most sustainable tourism business by the Federation of Tourism Business of Chile (Fedetur).
